Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first TV roles were two appearances as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. But her parents would not let her perform until she was an adult due to the effects stress would be able to have on their daughter. Perry was shy during high school and was not a performer. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred to the university from Boston University. After graduating Perry relocated to New York to search for television work landing small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought her back to California where she found acting work. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played nine roles in The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry was a part-time character in ABC's political thriller Scandal that starred her father. The same year, she played a young character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother as a young version. The character was picked via auditions the fact that she had a deep connection with it.
